The proposed project aims to develop an integrated facility and industrial complex to foster the growth of natural rubber-based and ancillary industries. Spanning across 164.86 acres of land designated for Kerala Rubber Limited in Velloor, Kottayam District, the project will unfold in two phases. With an estimated investment of around 254 crore rupees, it underscores a significant commitment to bolstering the regional economy. This initiative promises to create a conducive environment for the expansion and diversification of industries, driving innovation, employment generation, and overall socio-economic development in the region.
Research & Development Centre
Research & Development Centre is intended to assist rubber industry stakeholders through innovative technologies and in developing new products. Focus on identifying emerging market opportunities and creating customized rubber solutions for various sectors, including automotive, healthcare, and construction. The Centre will develop and provide facilities for prototyping and testing to validate new products, while developing advanced rubber formulations to meet specific needs. Through collaboration with industry partners, academic institutions, and research organizations, it proposes to promote technology transfer and ensure that the industry benefits from latest advancements in the sector. This Strategic focus of the Centre is expected to assist the rubber industrial sector to be dynamic and competitive by its application portfolio and meet evolving market demands
Business Incubation Center
The Business Incubation Centre will offer a suite of essential support services for rubber-based industries. It is expected to assist in quality management by guiding compliance with industry standards and helping establish robust quality systems. The Centre aims to foster innovation by supporting the development of new rubber products and providing strategies to enhance market competitiveness and work in tandem with the R&D Centre. Additionally, it will liaison with governmental and other promotional institutions, ensuring entrepreneurs streamlined access to critical resources and services necessary for their business. This holistic approach is designed to nurture emerging enterprises and drive their long-term growth in the rubber sector.
Training & Information Centre
Training & Information Centre is to be set up as a pivotal facility dedicated to advancing skills, knowledge, and innovation within the natural rubber industrial sector. Core objectives include enhancing technical skills through courses on cutting-edge rubber processing technology and sustainability practices, dissemination of up-to-date industry information and research findings, and supporting MSMEs with business management workshops and technology adoption. The Centre aims to foster innovation by collaborating with academic institutions, establishing innovation hubs, and organizing events. It will offer certification programs to ensure adherence to quality standards and regulations. Facilities will include advanced class rooms, resource library, laboratories and seminar halls. This initiative aims to strengthen the rubber industry in Kerala, driving its growth and competitiveness on a global scale.
Testing & Quality Certification Centre
Testing and Quality Certification Centre aims to provide comprehensive testing services across all stages of production for selected products. It seeks to become a one-stop solution for natural rubber-based industries by offering end-to-end testing capabilities. Additionally, the centre intends to provide quality certification to Natural Rubber based industries, ensuring compliance with rigorous standards and regulations. By doing so, it empowers businesses to gain a competitive edge in the market by showcasing their commitment to superior quality and reliability in their products.
Rubber Products Exhibition Centre
The Rubber Products Exhibition Centre is envisioned as a premier Knowledge Centre and Museum, showcasing a diverse array of rubber products from across the globe. It will exhibit products manufactured by units within the industrial complex and beyond, offering entrepreneurs and investors insight into the boundless possibilities of natural rubber. Additionally, the center will serve as a dynamic venue for hosting trade shows, business meetings, and various events, fostering networking opportunities and facilitating collaboration within the natural rubber industry ecosystem on both national and international scales.

- Rubber Products Sterilisation Centre: intends to equip latex products manufacturing units within and outside the Industrial Complex with international standard sterilisation facilities for making their product ready for domestic and export market. Ethylene Oxide (EO or ETO) is used for sterilisation in existing techniques. Gamma radiation-based sterilisation techniques are also envisaged under KRL Industrial Complex.
- Rubber Products Recycling Centre: Rubber powder is produced from used rubber articles which may contain both natural and synthetic rubbers. Besides, used rubber products often contain plastic materials such as PVC, PE, PP etc. and ebonite from battery boxes. Rubber powder is a major constituent of all types of rubber mats. Rubber Products Recycling Centre is planned to be located in the Complex to allow sale of quality rubber powder to industries. This may be beneficial to MSME units.
- Tyre Testing & Research Centre : Pneumatic Tyres play a crucial role in the Safety of automobiles and understanding the performance of tyre and tyre mechanics is critical in determining their influence on the ride, handling and safety of two wheelers, three wheelers, cars & commercial vehicles. Tyre Testing Centre can provide services related to type approval and conformity of production of tyres as per national and international standards. Apart from this, the tyre testing centre can provide services of tyre testing of samples submitted by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Indian and foreign tyre manufacturers for inclusion of particular tyre sizes in their prevailing BIS Licenses.
